Fun Shaped Floating Card

| | | | |

I’m so excited to share today’s card with you! It’s part of a special collaboration with other amazing designers to celebrate my sweet friend Julie Carriere’s 10K YouTube subscribers milestone! Julie is such a talented crafter, and I was thrilled to join in on the fun by recreating one of her beautiful projects with my own twist.

For this project, I chose to recreate one of Julie’s creative projects—a unique floating card. You can find a list of all the fabulous collaborators’ videos here and check out Julie’s original card design video here.

What’s a Floating Card?

A floating card creates the illusion that your design is floating off the card base. Julie achieved this effect by adhering thin strips of colored cardstock to a piece of vellum, which gives the design a light, airy look. I absolutely loved the way her original card turned out, and I knew I wanted to give it a try—but with my own twist!

My Version of the Floating Card

Instead of using greens like Julie did, I opted for a purple palette to give my card a fresh, vibrant feel. I combined different shades of purple cardstock strips and adhered them to vellum, just like Julie’s technique. For the floral elements, I switched things up and used a different stamp set with larger flowers.

To make it even more unique, I used the largest of my nesting dies to create a fun-shaped card base. This adds an extra touch of whimsy and coordinates with the shape of the floating strips!

Watch My Process Video

If you’d like to see exactly how I created this card step by step, be sure to check out my process video below. I walk through how I layered the cardstock strips, stamped and colored the flowers, and put everything together to achieve that fun floating effect.

I had so much fun participating in this collaboration and celebrating Julie’s incredible achievement. Don’t forget to visit the other designers’ videos to see their fabulous creations and get even more inspiration!
Happy crafting!
