Hot Foiled Leaves with a Soft Fall Color Blend

This past weekend I hosted a Free Craft Day and had so much fun with some of my favorite crafty friends! I wanted everyone to have a chance to play with the new Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil System, so I designed this pretty fall inspired card as our make and take project for the day.

It was the perfect project to show off just how versatile hot foiling can be. We started with beautiful gold foiled leaves, then added a soft blend of fall colors using one of the coordinating stencils. The result is a card that has a little bit of shine, a little bit of color, and lots of fall beauty!

Creating the Foiled Leaves

I started by hot foiling the Lustrous Leaves Hot Foil Die onto Basic White cardstock using Gold Hot Foil.

The Lustrous Leaves Bundle includes several coordinating stencils that can be used to add additional details to the leaves. For this project though, I wanted to keep the look soft and simple, so I only used the full open stencil.

Using Blending Brushes, I blended Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, and Pumpkin Pie ink over the hot foiled leaves. I love how the soft color blend adds a little fall warmth while the gold foil details continue to shine through.

After stenciling, I used the coordinating Lustrous Leaves cutting die to die cut the leaves.

Putting the Card Together

For the background, I embossed a piece of 4″ x 5¼” Basic White cardstock with the Textured Tree Rings 3D Embossing Folder. The subtle texture adds just enough interest to the background without taking away from the leaves.

I adhered the embossed piece to an A2 card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I arranged the die-cut foiled leaves on the card and adhered them with more Dimensionals.

For the sentiment, I hot foiled Thinking of You from the Classic Greetings Hot Foil Dies also using Gold Hot Foil. I die cut the sentiment with its coordinating cutting die and popped it up in the center of the leaves with Dimensionals.

To finish the card, I added a few Old Olive Radiant Gems for a little extra sparkle.

A Simple Way to Add Color to Hot Foiling

I really love how this card shows that hot foiling doesn’t have to be complicated. The gold foiling creates a beautiful foundation, and then the coordinating stencils make it easy to add color and customize the look.

And while the Lustrous Leaves Bundle includes additional stencils for adding more detailed patterns to the leaves, sometimes simple is better. The soft blend of Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, and Pumpkin Pie was all these leaves needed!
