Floating Christmas Cheer Card

I had fun creating this Christmas card using the Scallop Christmas Cheer Dies and Season of Celebration Mix & Match Ephemera. I call it a Floating Card because of the way the striped cardstock appears to float above the card front. It’s actually adhered to a piece of vellum using Foam Adhesive Strips, which gives it that fun dimensional look!

I created the card below using this same technique a couple of years ago and shared a video showing exactly how to create the floating effect. Creating the Floating Striped Element

To create the striped element, I started by cutting 3/16″ strips of Cherry Cobbler, Real Red, and Two Tone Poppy Parade cardstock. I adhered the strips to a 3″ x 4″ piece of Vellum, using the various colors to create the ombré look.

Next, I die cut the entire piece using the second smallest Scallop Christmas Cheer Die. I added Foam Adhesive Strips to the back of the vellum, positioning it behind the cardstock strips so the adhesive wouldn’t show. Then I adhered it to the center of the card front.

The result is a fun floating effect that adds dimension and interest without adding a lot of bulk!

Creating the Card Base

For the card base, I die cut two of the largest Scallop Christmas Cheer Dies from Real Red cardstock. I adhered the two pieces together along the top edge to create the folded card.

I cut a piece of White cardstock to 3¼” x 4⅜” and matted it with Peaceful Pine cardstock before adhering it to the center of the card front. I repeated this same layering on the inside of the card to create a cohesive look.

To finish off the front, I added a poinsettia, greenery sprigs, and the “Christmas Cheer” sentiment from the Season of Celebration Mix & Match Ephemera. One of the things I love most about this Ephemera pack is that they are actually thick stickers, so no additional adhesive is required! I also added another poinsettia and sentiment sticker to the inside of the card.

I love how the traditional Christmas colors and layered floral accents come together on this card. And that floating striped element is such a fun technique to try with different colors and patterns!
