Christmas in July with the NEW Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil System

One of my favorite things about getting a new crafting tool is experimenting with it in ways it wasn’t necessarily designed for. Since the new Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil System arrived, I’ve been having so much fun testing different surfaces to see what I can foil on. See my experiment with hot foiling on vellum here. Naturally, one of my first questions (after ”would it work on vellum?”) was…would it work on fabric?

The answer is yes!

I found these small fabric drawstring bags on Amazon and thought they would make the perfect test project. I wasn’t sure exactly how the foil would adhere, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The foiled design added such a beautiful elegant touch to the bag, making it perfect for a small gift, holiday treat, jewelry, or even a gift card.

For the background, I first stamped the Botanical Glow leaves onto the fabric using Pretty Peacock Ink. After that, I used the coordinating Botanical Glow Hot Foil Die with Gold Foil to create the metallic leaf design.

One thing I really love about this bundle is that the stamped image and the hot foil design are not intended to line up exactly. They are two different coordinating images that are designed to be used together, creating a layered look with lots of depth and interest. The foiled leaves sit slightly offset from the stamped leaves, giving the design an artistic, elegant feel without needing perfect alignment.

As I finished the background, it started feeling a little Christmassy, so I decided to lean into it!

I used the new Pretty Poinsettia Impressions Dies to create a large poinsettia from Cherry Cobbler cardstock with Pretty Peacock leaves. Although it’s difficult to capture in the photos, I added extra dimension by blending Cherry Cobbler Ink onto the centers of the flower petals and Pretty Peacock Ink onto the leaves. Then I carefully used my fingernail to bend along the embossed center lines of each petal and leaf, giving the flower a much more realistic, lifelike shape. The finishing touch was a delicate poinsettia center die cut from a Gold Foil Sheet, tying everything together beautifully.

The finished pouch would make a wonderful little holiday gift package, and it has me excited to experiment with even more non-paper surfaces with the Hot Foil System.

After all, it’s never too early to start creating for Christmas, right? 🎄
